Labor fails to deliver vital funding for South Barwon Schools

Daniel Andrews and his Labor Government have abandoned hundreds of South Barwon families by failing to deliver much needed funding to five local schools.

Prior to the 2014 election, I announced that a re-elected Coalition Government would deliver important funding to upgrade five schools:

  • Grovedale Secondary College ($6.4 million)
  • Belmont High School ($6.3 million)
  • Bellaire Primary School ($3.96 million)
  • Highton Primary School ($1.135 million)
  • Nazareth Catholic Primary School ($625,000)

This important funding was a firm commitment of the Coalition. The incoming Andrews Government has scrapped this funding commitment, therefore failing to deliver over $18 million of vital funding for local schools servicing students in the electorate of South Barwon.

Quotes attributable to Andrew Katos MP, State Member for South Barwon:

“Shadow Minister Nick Wakeling and I today inspected facilities at Grovedale College, Nazareth Catholic Primary School, Bellaire Primary School and Belmont High School to see firsthand the need for urgent upgrades at these schools.”

“Parents in the South Barwon electorate rightly want these schools to be upgraded and welcomed our election funding commitments after eleven years of neglect by Labor whilst in government.”

“I will continue to stand up for families to ensure that this vital funding of over $18 million for schools in South Barwon is delivered.”

Quotes attributable to Nick Wakeling MP, Shadow Minister for Education:

“Premier Andrews has ripped away over $18 million of vital funding for South Barwon schools.”

“The Premier needs to explain to the hundreds of South Barwon families why they are being punished by not delivering this important funding.”
