More local job losses under Daniel Andrews

Official figures show that Geelong has lost 4,600 full-time jobs since Daniel Andrews came to office.

Australian Bureau of Statistic data released today reveals the number of people in full-time jobs in Geelong has fallen from 76,500 in December 2014 to 71,900 in July 2015.

Member for South Barwon Andrew Katos said the figures make a mockery of Daniel Andrews’ claim that every job is worth fighting for.

“Daniel Andrews promised to create 100,000 full-time jobs in two years, but all we have seen in job losses,” Mr Katos said.

“At a time when we need to be creating jobs in Geelong, only 2.9 per cent of Daniel Andrews’ major infrastructure funding is being spent in regional Victoria.

“Labor’s promise that its Bay West ports plan would create ‘jobs, jobs and more jobs’ has now been shown as a cruel hoax to the people of Geelong.

“The cancellation of the East West Link contract has cost 3,700 jobs that could have gone to people from the Geelong region.

“Under Daniel Andrews the growth of regional Victoria is on hold and his promise of new jobs is all talk and no action.”
