Much needed Bellbrae roundabout a step closer thanks to funding by previous Napthine Coalition government

Works will soon start on a roundabout at the busy Great Ocean Road and Forest Road intersection at Bellbrae, with the construction contract awarded to Millers Civic Contractors Pty Ltd, Member for South Barwon Andrew Katos announced today.

Mr Katos said the previous Napthine Coalition government identified the road as a major safety concern to drivers and approved $2.5 million funding for the construction of a roundabout at the Great Ocean Road and Forest Road intersection in the 2014/15 Budget.

“Not only is this area extremely busy in peak periods with many tourists travelling around Torquay and Anglesea, but there is a real boom underway in residential development,” Mr Katos said.

“The Great Ocean Road is also the key route in the Surf Coast area and sees a surge in traffic volumes of up to 10,000 vehicles a day in peak seasonal times.

“Quite a lot of people use this intersection at the moment, and it will only get more popular as the estates in the area grow, so it is vital we take action to improve safety now.

“This new roundabout will force all road users to slow down through the area and give way to oncoming vehicles,” Mr Katos said.

Construction is expected to commence later this year.
