South Barwon snubbed in bus review consultation process

South Barwon snubbed in bus review consultation process

Andrew Katos is bitterly disappointed that none of the community consultation sessions scheduled during March will be held in the South Barwon area, as part of proposals to alter numerous bus services across the Geelong region.

Public Transport Victoria has reopened the community feedback period to 15 March 2015 and will include some information sessions.

Community information sessions are to be held at Geelong and Lara Railway Stations, with 3 separate sessions on the Bellarine Peninsula on 11 and 12 March.

However there are no information sessions scheduled for south of the Barwon River or in Torquay.

People chose to live at certain locations because of ease of access to public transport and these changes will have major implications for people who do not have the benefit of private transport.

Quotes attributable to Member for South Barwon, Andrew Katos

‘This is a total snub for the hundreds of bus commuters in my Electorate from Highton, Wandana Heights, Torquay and all points in-between to have personal input or to learn more on the proposed changes’.

‘I call on Daniel Andrews to ensure Public Transport Victoria review’s its community information sessions program to provide for additional sessions in either Highton, Waurn Ponds or Torquay to allow for as much feedback as possible from the South Barwon community, before making changes to bus routes that have the potential to be highly detrimental to large sections of the regional community.’
